Vacation rental booking tips:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • Book your Charleston area rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Begin by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 4 Bedrooms - 4 Blocks to King Street with Parking has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area destination you crave, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or applied to your contract.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
