How to find the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. AWESOME PROPERTY, GREAT DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON LOCATION! Sleeps 10 has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or could be applied to your invoice.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
