Booking the best Charleston area vacation property experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your search:

  • First, have your group agree to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Historic Home Monthly Rental with Fabulous Piazza has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

More considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
