Getting the best Charleston area rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the best Charleston area vacation home:
- To start, have your group commit to trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Perfect for Groups, Directly off King Street! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
