How to find the best rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Walkable Neighborhood! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
