Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Cozy Townhouse in heart of West Ashley has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
