Strategies to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Charleston area rental & When to go:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by having your group commit to dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Cozy Townhouse in heart of West Ashley has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Advice for a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
