Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your family choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. The Iris, Signature Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
