How to find the best Charleston vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To find the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
How to pick the best rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. The Iris, Signature Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's a certain Charleston area beach you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
