Strategies to get the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Unique Romantic Beach Style Cottage close to Folly Beach & historic Charleston! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
