Rental home booking tips:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and picking the right Charleston area vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Unique Romantic Beach Style Cottage close to Historic Charleston & Folly Beach! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
