Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking a perfectvacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. ‘Pacific Blue’ – Historic Home 5 mins to King St. has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
