Booking the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. 73 Grand Pavilion by AvantStay
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Have a great stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
