Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:
When to go & When to book:
- To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your Search:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Prime Grand Pavilion Location! Steps from Beach, Pool, & Boardwalk! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
