How to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To find the best value, change your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Prime Grand Pavilion Location! Steps from Beach, Pool, & Boardwalk! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
