Rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the best rental value:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. To find the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation.
