Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To find the largest rental for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your family select trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Historic Downtown Family Friendly Spacious Home has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you long to visit, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
