Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:
- Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and picking the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. The Madison- Historic Charleston Single House with Double Porches & Roof Deck has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what bed configuration is best for your group.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
