How to book the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Historic Charleston Charm has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
