Charleston area rental property booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the perfect vacation home:

  • First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Historic Charleston Charm has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
