Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Charleston. To get the best value, shift your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking the best Charleston area rental home:

  • First, have your group decide on the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Historic Charleston Abode! Close to King St! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.

  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
