How to find the best Charleston area rental experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Unit B
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
