How to get the best vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family select date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Come and Experience 'Bliss' Our Luxurious Oceanfront Beach Club Villa $250 Beach Gear Credit Avail! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of issues.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
