Our top Charleston rental property booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select your dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Old King Street Mood 3 Bedroom has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
