Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Summer is high season in Charleston. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Full Renovation of 1811 historical home. Completed Dec of 2024! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
