Charleston area rental home booking tips and tricks:
Find your best deal:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Charleston area rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Gorgeous, Spacious, Fully Renovated Whole House - Awesome Location - 6 Bedrooms has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you crave, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
