Strategies to get the optimal Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserve your Charleston area rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
How to select the perfect vacation rental:
- First, have your group agree to dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Historic Condo Just Steps to Upper King Street has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
