Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Booking in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly townhouse close to downtown & Folly Beach with patio & fireplace has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. message the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
