Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your Charleston area rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Charming Private Suite Close to Beach & Downtown has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
