Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Book your Charleston area rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Charming 2BR with Artistic Details and Parking! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
