- Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.

- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
