Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to select the best vacation rental:

  • Start by having your family commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lady Banks: Steps to Charleston's Best! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
