How to get the best vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- To get the largest rental within your budget, we suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting and booking your Charleston area rental home:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Historic B&B King Suite- Walk to King has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
During your stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
