Rental booking tips:

When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your family agree to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
