Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer time is high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and picking yourrental home:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - 1 Bedroom has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
