Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Private Pool, luxe interiors, 1-block to beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you crave, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
