How to find the best Charleston area rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and pick your prefectrental home:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Private Pool, luxe interiors, 1-block to beach has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you simply love, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
