How to book the best Charleston area vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Summer months are high season in Isle of Palms. Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. 401 Yacht by AvantStay
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
