Tips and Tricks to get the very best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Get the best value:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by having your family agree to the best dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. IDEAL IOP Beach Home, 6 BR, Private Pool, Close to Beach, Spacious! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before booking the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your group.
- If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you crave, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
