Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To get the largest rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by having your group decide on trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Luxury Beach Rental! Private Pool & Hot Tub, Elevator & outdoor fireplace! has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are crazy about, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
During your stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- To make certain damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. message the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
