How to book the best vacation property experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, change your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental home:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Modern, marsh-front, 2-story townhome w\/ deck & shared dock on James Island has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area attraction you crave, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
