Rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your Charleston area rental in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the right Charleston area rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Minutes to Downtown 2br Apartment
90 Night Minimum has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search. - Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
