Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Choose dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Minutes to Downtown 2br Apartment
90 Night Minimum has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. - Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
