Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
  • The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking the perfect Charleston area rental home:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Explore Historic Charleston All Around You! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
