Tricks and tips to get the very best rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and pick your prefect Charleston area vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your family select trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Room for 6 has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
