Our top Vacation rental home tips:
When to go & When to book:
- Book your Charleston area rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the perfect rental home in Charleston:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. The Isla Suite: A Dream Getaway for Friends has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
