Tricks and tips for getting the best Isle of Palms rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and picking your Charleston area vacation home:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Classic Family Beach House, short walk to beach, Pet friendly w/ fee - 17 56th Ave has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Have a fantastic stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- During arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
