Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Book your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
How to choose the perfect vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. THE INNS Renovated & Charming 4BR\/3BA Downtown has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
