Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental home experience:

When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking your Charleston area rental home:

  • Select your dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Chic and Comfy Home
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
