Finding the best Charleston vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- To find the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking the bestrental:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Spacious Daniel Island condo has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
