Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Bright & Fun 1 Bedroom Monthly Rental has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
