How to get the best Sullivans Island rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and picking the bestrental home:

  • Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. The Watch House ~ Brand New to Charleston Coast Vacations! ~Monthly Rentals Only has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area destination you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
