Our top Sullivans Island rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to go & When to book:

  • To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • To start, have your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Watch House ~ Brand New to Charleston Coast Vacations! ~Monthly Rentals Only has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your contract.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
