Strategies for getting the best Charleston rental experience:
Get the most from your budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some property managers offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. The Savannah (Suite A) by StayDuvet! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your invoice.
Know before you go:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, record any problem areas during check in. message the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
