Our top Charleston rental property booking tips:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to select the perfect rental in Charleston:

  • Select vacation dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. The Lodge Alley Inn, Studio, Stroll Through The Scenery has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
