Finding the best Charleston area vacation property experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Choosing the best rental home in the Charleston area area:
- To start, have your family agree to vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Home With Private Pool 'The Blue Lagoon' has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
