Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
