Tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the most suitable rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning and picking a perfect Charleston area rental home:

  • Start by choosing your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. Spacious 3BR 2 BA home located 10 mins from Folly Beach and Downtown Charleston! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
